Abraham Tucker

Philosopher

Abraham Tucker was an 18th-century English philosopher and country gentleman known for his extensive work on ethics and metaphysics. He wrote under the pseudonym Edward Search, publishing his magnum opus, 'The Light of Nature Pursued,' over several volumes. His philosophical system attempted to reconcile Christian ethics with utilitarian principles, arguing that benevolent actions ultimately lead to personal satisfaction. Though not as famous as his contemporaries, Tucker's ideas influenced later utilitarian thinkers like William Paley.
