Arthur Herman Bremer is an American man who attempted to assassinate U.S. Democratic presidential candidate George Wallace on May 15, 1972. Bremer's actions left Wallace paralyzed from the waist down for the remainder of his life. His motivations, detailed in his diary, were a desperate desire for fame and recognition rather than a political ideology. Convicted of attempted murder, Bremer was sentenced to 53 years in prison and was released on parole in 2007.
