Buddhist Monk

Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th or 6th century and is credited with transmitting Chan (Zen) Buddhism to China. Regarded as the first Chinese patriarch of Zen, his teachings emphasized meditation and self-realization. According to popular legend, he introduced a regimen of physical exercises at the Shaolin Monastery, which became the basis for Shaolin kung fu. His philosophy focuses on realizing the Buddha-nature inherent in one's own mind, independent of scriptures.
