Carlos Wilcox was an American poet and clergyman born in Newport, New Hampshire. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1813 and later studied theology at Andover Theological Seminary. His most notable work is the didactic poem 'The Age of Benevolence,' which was published posthumously. Though his life was cut short by illness at the age of 32, his descriptive poetry focusing on nature and morality left a mark on early American literature.
