Thomas Coleman 'Cole' Younger was a prominent American guerrilla fighter during the Civil War and later became a notorious outlaw. As a key member of the James-Younger Gang, he participated in numerous bank and train robberies throughout the American Midwest. After his capture in 1876 following the disastrous Northfield, Minnesota raid, he served a long prison sentence. Upon his release, Younger renounced his criminal past and spent his later years lecturing on the perils of a life of crime.
