Daniel David Palmer

Chiropractor

Daniel David Palmer was a Canadian-American healer and the founder of chiropractic. He performed the first chiropractic adjustment in September 1895 in Davenport, Iowa on a partially deaf janitor named Harvey Lillard. Palmer theorized that misaligned spinal vertebrae, which he called 'subluxations,' interfered with the body's nerve flow and innate healing intelligence. His work established the foundation for chiropractic as a distinct health care profession, which continues to be practiced worldwide today.
