Gavin Christopher Newsom is an American politician and businessman serving as the 40th governor of California since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 49th lieutenant governor of California and as the 42nd mayor of San Francisco. Newsom's political career began in 1996 when he was appointed to San Francisco's Parking and Traffic Commission and later to the Board of Supervisors. Throughout his career, he has been a prominent voice on issues such as same-sex marriage, gun control, and environmental policy.
