Gerard Manley Hopkins

Poet

Gerard Manley Hopkins was a prominent English poet, Roman Catholic convert, and Jesuit priest. His posthumous fame established him among the leading Victorian poets, whose work prefigured much of modern literature. He is best known for his experimental explorations in prosody, especially his 'sprung rhythm' and 'inscape' concepts. His work, often exploring themes of nature and religion, was not published in full until 30 years after his death, profoundly influencing many 20th-century writers.
