Granville Stanley Hall was a pioneering American psychologist and educator who is often considered the founder of child and educational psychology. He earned the first American doctorate in psychology and became the first president of the American Psychological Association (APA). His work was heavily influenced by Ernst Haeckel's recapitulation theory, applying it to human and child development in his theoretical framework. Hall was also instrumental in establishing Clark University as a leading institution for graduate studies, serving as its first president.
