Isaac Rosenberg

Poet

Isaac Rosenberg was a prominent English poet and artist of the First World War. Born in Bristol to working-class Jewish immigrants, he showed early artistic talent and attended the Slade School of Fine Art. Despite his pacifist inclinations, he enlisted in the British Army in 1915 and wrote some of his most powerful poetry from the trenches. Rosenberg was killed in action on the Somme, leaving behind a small but highly influential body of work that captured the brutal reality of trench warfare.
