Jean-Paul Marat

Politician

Jean-Paul Marat was a French physician, journalist, and politician who became a radical voice during the French Revolution. His newspaper, 'L'Ami du peuple' (The Friend of the People), advocated for the rights of the lower classes and called for violent purges of counter-revolutionaries. As a leading member of the radical Jacobin Club, his inflammatory rhetoric contributed significantly to the climate of the Reign of Terror. His life was cut short when he was assassinated in his bathtub by Charlotte Corday, which transformed him into a revolutionary martyr.
