Johann Joseph Most was a German-American anarchist, orator, and newspaper editor who became a prominent figure in the anarchist movement. Initially a social democrat in Germany, he grew increasingly radical, eventually advocating for propaganda of the deed, the use of violence to incite revolution. After immigrating to the United States in 1882, he founded the German-language newspaper Freiheit ('Freedom'), which became a leading voice for revolutionary anarchism. His fiery speeches and writings made him a controversial figure, leading to numerous arrests and imprisonments for his outspoken views against capitalism and the state.
