John Wesley Dean III is an American attorney who served as White House Counsel for United States President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. Dean is best known for his role in the cover-up of the Watergate scandal and his subsequent testimony to Congress as a key witness. His cooperation with prosecutors and revealing testimony were instrumental in the investigation that ultimately led to Nixon's resignation. In his post-Watergate career, Dean became an investment banker, author, and political commentator, frequently writing about the GOP and government ethics.
