Larry Doby

Baseball Player

Larry Doby was a groundbreaking American professional baseball player who became the second African American to play in Major League Baseball. He broke the color barrier in the American League on July 5, 1947, just 11 weeks after Jackie Robinson did so in the National League. A seven-time All-Star center fielder, Doby helped lead the Cleveland Indians to a World Series championship in 1948, becoming one of the first black players to win a title. After his playing career, he also served as the second African American manager in MLB and was eventually elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998.
