Lee De Forest

Inventor

Lee De Forest was a pioneering American inventor and a central figure in the development of radio technology. His most famous invention, the Audion vacuum tube in 1906, was the first device capable of amplifying a weak electrical signal, which was a crucial step in creating radio broadcasting and long-distance telephone calls. Often called the 'Father of Radio,' he held over 300 patents, contributing significantly to the fields of wireless telegraphy, sound-on-film motion pictures, and early television. Despite numerous patent disputes, particularly with Edwin Howard Armstrong, De Forest's contributions fundamentally shaped the electronic age of the 20th century.
