Marc Bloch

Historian

Marc Bloch was an influential French historian and a co-founder of the influential Annales School of historical thought. His groundbreaking works, such as "The Royal Touch" and "Feudal Society," revolutionized the study of history by focusing on long-term social and economic structures. Bloch advocated for a comparative and interdisciplinary approach, drawing on geography, sociology, and economics to understand the past. A decorated veteran of World War I, he joined the French Resistance during World War II and was tragically captured and executed by the Gestapo in 1944.
