Nagarjuna

Philosopher

Nagarjuna was a highly influential Indian Mahayana Buddhist philosopher and the founder of the Madhyamaka school of thought. He is renowned for his development of the concept of śūnyatā, or emptiness, which became a central tenet of Mahayana Buddhism. His seminal work, the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā (Fundamental Verses on the Middle Way), uses rigorous logical analysis to deconstruct conventional notions of reality and existence. Through his profound teachings, Nagarjuna is often revered as a 'second Buddha' by many Buddhist traditions for his role in clarifying and propagating core doctrines.
