Neville Chamberlain served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1937 to 1940. He is best known for his foreign policy of appeasement, particularly his signing of the 1938 Munich Agreement with Adolf Hitler. Following Germany's invasion of Poland, Chamberlain led Britain into the Second World War, declaring war on September 3, 1939. He resigned in May 1940 after the Allies were forced to retreat from Norway and was succeeded by Winston Churchill.
