Pablo Neruda

Poet

Pablo Neruda was the pen name and, later, legal name of the Chilean poet-diplomat and politician Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto. He became known as a poet when he was 13 years old, writing in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, and overtly political manifestos. In 1971, Neruda won the Nobel Prize in Literature, an award that Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez once called "the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language." His works, particularly his passionate love poems, have been translated into many languages and continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
