Sir Peter Hall was a highly influential English theatre and film director who shaped modern British theatre. In 1960, he founded the Royal Shakespeare Company and served as its artistic director until 1968. He later became the director of the National Theatre in 1973, a position he held for fifteen years. Throughout his prolific career, he was a powerful advocate for public funding for the arts and directed numerous acclaimed productions.
