Pierre Schaeffer

Composer

Pierre Schaeffer was a highly influential French composer, writer, broadcaster, engineer, and musicologist. He is most famously known as the pioneer of musique concrète, an experimental form of electroacoustic music that utilizes recorded sounds as raw material. Schaeffer's groundbreaking work in the 1940s and 1950s at the Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française (RTF) laid the foundation for modern sampling and sound manipulation techniques. His theoretical writings, particularly "Traité des objets musicaux," fundamentally challenged traditional concepts of music, sound, and listening.
