Rafael Palmeiro is a Cuban-American former Major League Baseball first baseman and left fielder. During his 20-year career, he became one of only seven players in MLB history to be a member of both the 500 home run club and the 3,000 hit club. His legacy was significantly tarnished by a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs in 2005, just months after vehemently denying their use in testimony before Congress. This controversy has largely overshadowed his on-field accomplishments and kept him out of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
