Richard Blackmore

Writer

Sir Richard Blackmore was an English physician and prolific writer, known for his epic poems and philosophical treatises. He served as a physician to both King William III, who knighted him in 1697, and later to Queen Anne. Despite his professional success and royal appointments, his literary works were often the subject of harsh criticism and satire from his more famous contemporaries, including Alexander Pope and John Dryden. Nevertheless, Blackmore's extensive output provides a notable example of the literary and intellectual landscape of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
