Robert Venturi was a highly influential American architect and a founding principal of the firm Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates. He is widely regarded as one of the major architectural figures of the twentieth century, challenging modernist orthodoxy in his influential writings and built works. His 1966 book, "Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture," is seen as a seminal text that helped launch the postmodern movement. Venturi, alongside his partner and wife Denise Scott Brown, received the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1991 for his significant contributions to the field.
