Dame Silvia Rose Cartwright is a distinguished jurist and public servant from New Zealand. She had a groundbreaking legal career, becoming the first female Chief District Court Judge in 1989 and the first woman appointed to the High Court in 1993. Cartwright is widely recognized for chairing the "Cartwright Inquiry," a pivotal investigation into unethical medical research at Auckland's National Women's Hospital. From 2001 to 2006, she served as the 18th Governor-General of New Zealand, the second woman to hold this office.
