Spiritual Teacher

Swami Sivananda Saraswati was a prominent Hindu spiritual teacher and a proponent of Yoga and Vedanta. Born as Kuppuswami in Pattamadai, Tamil Nadu, he studied medicine and served as a physician in British Malaya for several years before renouncing his worldly life. In 1924, he became a monk and established the Sivananda Ashram on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh. He authored over 200 books on a wide range of subjects, popularizing the practice of yoga and spiritual principles through his teachings and the Divine Life Society.
