Thomas Chalmers was a highly influential Scottish minister, theologian, and social reformer. He served as Professor of Moral Philosophy at St. Andrews University and later as Professor of Theology at the University of Edinburgh. A leading figure in the Church of Scotland, he played a pivotal role in the Disruption of 1843, which led to the formation of the Free Church of Scotland. Chalmers was also a noted political economist, advocating for parish-based poor relief and Christian charity as solutions to social problems.
