Titus Livius

Historian

Titus Livius, known as Livy in English, was a celebrated Roman historian who wrote a monumental history of Rome and its people. His work, titled Ab Urbe Condita Libri (Books from the Foundation of the City), chronicled the period from Rome's legendary origins to his own time during the reign of Augustus. Although only about a quarter of his original 142 books have survived, they represent one of the most important sources for the history of the Roman Republic. Livy's narrative style and patriotic accounts greatly influenced subsequent Western historiography and our modern understanding of ancient Rome.
