Chanakya was an ancient Indian philosopher, teacher, and royal advisor who lived during the 4th century BCE. He is traditionally identified as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, the author of the ancient Indian political treatise, the Arthashastra. As the chief advisor to the first Mauryan emperor Chandragupta, he played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Mauryan Empire. His works on economics, statecraft, and political philosophy have been influential for centuries and are considered a precursor to modern political science.
