Charles Sanders Peirce

Philosopher

Charles Sanders Peirce was a brilliant American philosopher, logician, and scientist widely regarded as the founder of the philosophical school of pragmatism. A polymath with vast contributions to logic, mathematics, and semiotics, he spent much of his career working for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. Despite his profound intellectual output, his work was largely unrecognized during his lifetime, and he lived his later years in poverty and isolation. Today, Peirce is celebrated as one of America's greatest thinkers, whose ideas on signs, inquiry, and community have deeply influenced diverse academic fields.
