Conrad Veidt was a prominent German actor who began his career on the stage and in silent films. Veidt is best remembered for his villainous roles and his iconic performance as the somnambulist in the German Expressionist film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. After fleeing Nazi Germany, he continued his successful career in Britain and Hollywood, notably playing Major Heinrich Strasser in Casablanca.
