George Mason

Statesman

George Mason IV was an American planter, politician, and delegate to the U.S. Constitutional Convention of 1787, and one of the Founding Fathers. His most famous work, the Virginia Declaration of Rights, served as a model for many other documents, including the U.S. Bill of Rights. He was a vocal advocate for individual liberties and famously refused to sign the Constitution because it lacked a bill of rights. Mason's writings and political actions have left a lasting legacy, cementing his title as the "Father of the Bill of Rights."
