Geraldine Anne Ferraro was an American politician, diplomat, and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party, she served in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1985. In 1984, she became the first female vice presidential candidate representing a major American political party, running alongside Walter Mondale. After her congressional career, she served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights from 1993 to 1996.
