Gladys Maria Knight, known as the "Empress of Soul," is a celebrated American singer, songwriter, and actress. She first achieved fame in the 1960s and 1970s as the lead singer of the group Gladys Knight & the Pips. Together they recorded numerous hit songs, including "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." A seven-time Grammy Award winner, Knight has also enjoyed a successful solo career and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
