Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is a Nigerian general and statesman who served as military President of Nigeria from 1985 until his resignation in 1993. He rose through the ranks of the Nigerian Army and was a key player in several military coups in the country. His regime oversaw significant political and economic reforms, including the creation of new states and the construction of a new federal capital in Abuja. Babangida's rule is most remembered for the controversial annulment of the 12 June 1993 presidential election, which led to widespread protests and ultimately his departure from power.
