Isaac Butt

Politician

Isaac Butt was a highly influential Irish barrister, politician, and economist, born in County Donegal. He began his political career as a Tory but later became a key figure in Irish nationalism. Butt is widely regarded as the 'Father of Home Rule,' having founded the Home Government Association, which later became the Home Rule League. His moderate approach to achieving Irish self-governance laid the groundwork for his more radical successor, Charles Stewart Parnell.
