Leopoldo Fortunato Galtieri was an Argentine general and politician who served as the de facto President of Argentina from 1981 to 1982. He was a leading figure in the military junta known as the National Reorganization Process, which ruled the country during a period of state terrorism. Galtieri is most famously known for ordering the 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands, which sparked the Falklands War against the United Kingdom. Argentina's subsequent defeat led to his downfall and eventually contributed to the restoration of democracy in the country.
