Leopoldo López is a prominent Venezuelan politician and opposition leader known for his staunch criticism of the governments of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro. He co-founded the political party Primero Justicia and later established Voluntad Popular, advocating for democratic reforms and non-violent resistance. López was arrested in 2014 on charges of inciting violence during protests, a move widely condemned internationally as politically motivated. After years of imprisonment and house arrest, he escaped Venezuela in 2020 and continues to be a leading voice for the Venezuelan opposition from exile.
