Marge Schott

Businessperson

Marge Schott was an American businessperson and the controversial managing general partner of the Cincinnati Reds baseball team from 1984 to 1999. She was the second woman to buy a Major League Baseball team and the first to purchase one outright rather than inheriting it. Her tenure was marked by both on-field success, including a World Series championship in 1990, and numerous controversies stemming from her offensive public statements. Schott was repeatedly suspended and ultimately forced to sell her controlling interest in the team due to her use of racial and ethnic slurs.
