Meir Kahane was an American-Israeli rabbi, writer, and ultra-nationalist politician who served one term in Israel's Knesset. He founded the Jewish Defense League (JDL) in the United States and the Israeli political party Kach. His controversial ideology, often labeled as Kahanism, advocated for the expulsion of most Arabs from Israel and the establishment of a Halakhic state. Kahane was assassinated in New York City in 1990, and his political party was later banned in Israel for being racist and undemocratic.
