Niels Bohr

Physicist

Niels Henrik David Bohr was a Danish physicist who made foundational contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum theory, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. He developed the Bohr model of the atom, which proposed that energy levels of electrons are discrete and that electrons revolve in stable orbits around the atomic nucleus. During World War II, he participated in the Manhattan Project, though he later became a strong advocate for the peaceful and transparent application of nuclear energy. After the war, he returned to Copenhagen and helped establish CERN, continuing his work and influencing generations of physicists through his institute.
