Wilhelmus 'Pim' Fortuyn was a controversial and charismatic Dutch politician, author, and academic who profoundly impacted the Netherlands' political landscape. He gained prominence for his outspoken criticism of multiculturalism, immigration, and the political establishment, which he referred to as 'the purple-cocoon'. Fortuyn founded his own party, the Lijst Pim Fortuyn (LPF), which saw a meteoric rise in popularity ahead of the 2002 general election. His political career was cut tragically short when he was assassinated just nine days before the election, an event that sent shockwaves through the nation.
