Richard Milhous Nixon was an American politician who served as the 37th President of the United States from 1969 to 1974. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a representative and senator from California and as the 36th Vice President from 1953 to 1961. His presidency saw the end of American involvement in the Vietnam War, the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Apollo 11 moon landing. Nixon became the only president to resign from office, following the Watergate scandal and the near-certainty of impeachment.
