Robert Emmet

Revolutionary

Robert Emmet was an Irish nationalist, republican, and orator who became a revered hero of Irish nationalism. Born in Dublin, he was deeply influenced by the ideals of the French and American revolutions. In 1803, he led an ill-fated rebellion in Dublin against British rule, which was quickly suppressed. Captured and convicted of high treason, his stirring speech from the dock before his execution cemented his legacy as a martyr for Irish independence.
