Carry Amelia Nation was a radical American activist and a prominent member of the temperance movement. She is most famous for her dramatic tactic of attacking alcohol-serving establishments with a hatchet. Believing she was divinely ordained to promote temperance, her campaign, known as "hatchetations," gained her national attention. Her fervent activism contributed to the climate that eventually led to the Eighteenth Amendment and Prohibition in the United States.
